The World is the largest privately owned residential yacht. The residents live on-board as the ship travels, staying in ports for several days at a time. She has 165 luxury residences (106 apartments, 19 studio apartments, and 40 studios), all owned by the ship’s residents.
The World flies the flag of The Bahamas and has a gross tonnage of 43,524 tons. The super yacht is 644 feet long, 98 feet wide, has 12 decks and a maximum speed of 18.5 knots.
On 20th April 2016 a 6-man team from Atlantic Pacific Marine boarded The World a week before her scheduled dry dock, to cut out the existing sewage plant. The team then reinforced the yacht’s steel base ready to sit the new plant on. During dry dock our team installed modulars around the tank, and fully built and welded the 316L stainless steel main process tank itself. All connecting pipework was SCH10 stainless steel.
Atlantic Pacific also installed a MBR system which uses biological degradation and membrane separation to treat black and grey water. The process produces the highest quality discharge without requiring any additional chemicals which are hazardous to the environment or ship operation. The new system exceeds USCG and Alaska discharge standards.
The project was completed on-time and on-budget, taking just 23 days from start to finish.
